This prestigious event has seen names like Mark Cavendish and Dan Martin both riding the Tour of France at the minute, Cavandish has won 2 stages and Martin is 3rd in GC.

Irish road champion recently crowned in Kilcullen Nicholas Roche, Bora Argon’s Sam Bennett and Team Sky’s Luke Rowe. This is the quality of the 6 day stage race based arond Ennis in Co Clare.

The Dalriada schoolboy has represented Ulster at schoolboy level but has shown that he can make the transition to the tougher ranks of junior racing, going from 40 mile events to double the length 80 mile races. Robbie was in race preparation mode with a 5th placing at the local Interclub race at Limavady.

There will be a daily account on the Ballymoney Cycling Club Facebook page. Alastair Henry the Ballymoney CC schoolboy and junior Northern Ireland champion rode the Junior Tour back in the 80’s.

Alastair has been closely watching Robbie’s progression and has passed on the best of advice from someone who knows what it is like to ride these types of events.

The domestic scene always sees the succes bu the Ballymoney racers as a sign of how the club is progressing, senior rider Uel Cunningham won the mid week Wallace McNaul Memorial Shield on the Finvoy Road and Under15 rider Kevin McCambridge won the Glen CC 10 TT .

Under 13 rider Rowan Montgomery was the fastest schoolboy at the Finvoy Rd 10TT. Uel was the runner up at the Dunloy TT and Scott Bell 6th, senior riders Steven McAllister 4th, Aaron Dickie 6th at the Bann Wheelers 40 mile road race. Cushendall riders Christine McCambridge and Rachel McLaughlin were also racing in the Glen CC event. Under 10 rider David Allen was 4th at the Omagh Wheelers races and Philip McKeown was

racing at the Coleraine event on Thursday night.

Fundraising for BCC Youth and Team Development.

With the ongoing success of the top flight Ballymoney outfit there has been a very vigourous fundraising programme has been set in place. Following the recent Senior Team being sent to the An Post Ras International 8 day stage race, the youth team are now benefitting from the club support. Ballymoney CC Youth Officer Douglas Hill raised £900 in a Thanks Giving sponsored 65 mile cycle to celebrate his 65th birthday around the Inishowen peninsula in Donegal.

Safeguarding officer Philip Logan along with Deirdre McLaughlin, Robert Fleming and a few others were on a fundraising cycle at Tesco in Knockbreda in Belfast wher £400 was raised.

Coming Events

This Wednesday evening is the now famous Grimpeurs Trophy Hill climb held on the lung searing Millbrae climb, 1500m of leg roasting exertion.

Sign on is from 6:30pm on the Slievanaghy Rd and racing starts at 7:15pm

Ballymoney CC Mid Season Awards will be held this month, the date, venue and winners will be announced in the next couple of weeks.
