Keeper Plummer shuts out Whites

LISBURN Distillery's hopes of tkaing all three points off Glenavon were dashed by visiting goalkeeper Andrew Plummer.

The former Ipswich Town goalkeeper produced a string of saves at New Grosvenor on Tuesday night to deny bottom placed Whites a crucial win.

There was a debut for new Distillery signing Austin Friel but it was Mark Patton with the first chance when he fired a quick free kick straight at the keeper on 14 minutes.

Friel then went close with a shot from distance and then at the other end Tony Grant failed to trouble Phil Matthews with a weak finish.

Stuart King then hit a free kick just wide of goal after Conor Walsh had been felled a yard away from the box.

Then the visitors had two goals ruled out for offside – first a Costello finish after he had been put through by King on 29 minutes, then four minutes later Walsh's header from Ryan Harpur's cross was also ruled out.

Early in the second half centre back David McAlinden drilled a firm shot into the defensive wall as the home side upped the tempo in search of victory.

Mark Cooling saw his drive spilled by Plummer powerful but Philip Simpson failed to cash in on the loose ball.

The best save of the game came on 63 minutes, this time Patton denied when Plummer got his fingertips to the shot.

Then Friel was stopped in his path by the brilliant Plummer after home in on goal.

The last real threat came with 15 minutes left when a free by Friel eventually fell to Glenn Ferguson but his downward header was again kept out by the hero of the night.
