KICKBOXING: Martin sisters crowned All-Ireland champions

Two local sisters were recently crowned All-Ireland kickboxing champions at an event in Sligo.

Darcy and Casey Martin both became All-Ireland Mugendo Kickboxing champions in their respective age groups at the recent event.

At the tournament which was held on February 20 and 21, the girls fought in the M.A.I National Championships. Along with other members from their club, Body Shots, the team achieved a Senior Champion and nine Junior Champions in total.

Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey, Cllr Thomas Hogg paid a visit to Body Shots Kickboxing Club to congratulate them on their recent successes.

The club, which officially opened their new premises in July 2013, have gone from strength to strength producing many kickboxing champions.

Cllr Hogg said: “Stuart and Lauren Beatty run the club and provide coaching to all age groups six days a week. Body Shots previously operated out of the Valley Leisure Centre for 32 years, where they produced more than 20 World Champions at all levels.”

The club has won Northern Ireland, Irish, British and European titles. The club is providing children and adults from all backgrounds the opportunity to get active and involved in sport in a safe and friendly environment.
