Maintained perfect start to the season

LURGAN Town under 16s maintained their 100 per cent start to the season on Saturday with a first ever win over Lisburn Youth at the Arena.

In a closely fought contest it was Town who bagged the three points with a 2-0 victory.

The first half was a battle with defences on top and very few chances for either side. The best chance of the half fell to Lurgan's Jamie Devlin who collected a great through ball and fired in a shot which just went wide with the keeper well beaten.

It was midway through the second half when Town deservedly took the lead. Substitute Mathew Johnstone made a great run down the left wing before firing a pinpoint cross to Aaron Duke who powered his header into the top corner.

Lurgan extended their lead when Luke Forsey raced clear of the Lisburn defence and fired an unstoppable shot past the keeper to make the game safe. Town however survived a late scare when a Lisburn free kick hit the crossbar with the keeper beaten but that was their only chance of the game.

A well deserved 2-0 victory for Lurgan who again looked solid at the back. Best for Town was Aaron Duke.
