Old Boys battle back to secure the points

Glebe Old Boys made three changes from their previous outing with DJ McBride donning the gloves in place of holidaymaker Aaron Reilly. Mervyn McKee came in for Paul Holmes and Les Nicholl replacedthe ailing Ally Newton. Dunaghy started along familiar lines.

Dunaghy opened in devastating fashion and it was no surprise when Doherty put his side ahead with a free-kick which eluded the static McBride.

Worse was to follow for Glebe when Shirley cut in from the right, eluded several tackles and saw his effort trickle in at the near post.

Veteran Joe Patton made it three with a neat finish and, with Glebe appearing to have overdone the festivities, Dunaghy appeared well on their way to three points.

Just before the interval player/manager Bellingham grabbed his side a life-line when he slotted home from the spot after a handball infringement.

Following a half-time dressing down Glebe were transformed in the second half lead by Les Nicholl who notched a hat-trick in a man of the match display. Nicholl began the fight-back with a header from Grimes’ free-kick and equalised shortly afterwards following Belllingham’s knockdown.

Nicholl put Glebe one up with a close range finish before Sheppard got on the scoresheet with a similar effort.

With Dunaghy pushing forward it was left to McCurdy to have the final say with a volley past Nutt and complete the day’s scoring although there was still time for Nicholl and Stephen J Elder to enter the miss of the season competition with efforts which found the trees rather than the net.
