Prior start with entertaining draw

PRIORIANS Firsts had to settle for a point from their opening league game of the season against Castlederg Firsts, on Saturday.

Prior had put in a lot of effort to their pre-season training and were looking forward to putting some new tactics into practice.

The home side started strong and held their shape well as Castlederg tried to hit long hard balls through the midfield.

Prior kept a higher percentage of possession, but Castlederg managed to win two short corners in succession with the second resulting in a goal for the visitors.

Priorians held their nerve and settled back into their rhythm with some great linking play between the midfield and forwards.

Emma Sproule and Claire Whiteside both had shots on target which were saved by Castlederg’s keeper.

A great run up the left of the pitch by Netty Wilson saw Sproule get the ball in the circle and confidently found the back of the net with a reverse stick shot.

Priorians kept the pressure on with two more on target shots but the full time whistle prevented any further goals, leaving the result at 1-1.

Heather Manning was voted player of the match and Prior will be looking to build on this display for the remainder of the season.
