Silver for Seaton at World Cup
Carrick’s Ryan Seaton and Matthew McGovern (Bangor), secured a silver medal for Providence team IRL at the ISAF World Cup in France last Saturday, following 15 hard-fought races against 79 of the world’s top 49er sailors.
The pair went into the medal race day in third position and secured a two, three, seven finish to clinch silver at Hyeres.
“We knew we could do it, we just had to get good starts and sail well,” Seaton said. “We have been consistent all week and that gave us confidence going in to today.”
The team will go on to compete at the 49er Europeans and then the World Championships in Hyeres, where they have the opportunity to qualify Ireland for the 2016 Olympic Games.
