In the competitive events, Louise Smart and Lisa Barrett made the trip to Lurgan to take part in the N.I. & Ulster Junior Cross Country Championships held in the picturesque Lurgan Park.

In spite of the horrendous weather and muddy conditions underfoot, both girls ran extremely well, with Smart crossing the finish line in the 4k Ladies’ Race in a commendable 21:18. Club-mate Barrett wasn’t far behind, clocking 21:53.

Further north, the Harriers’ sole triathlete, Natalie Davidson, took part in the Ballymoney Duathlon and in equally horrendous conditions was well pleased to finish in an excellent 1:00:16 to clinch the second female overall prize.

In Saturday’s parkrun 5k time trials the club was represented at Antrim, Larne and the Waterworks.

Fastest club parkrunner overall was Randall Smyth at the Waterworks with a pleasing 24:16, just ahead of Carol Annesley (25:03), Lisa Montgomery (27:10) and Marian Hayes (28:27).

At the Antrim parkrun, first home for the club was Irene Downey (25:05), followed by Julie Webb (27:28pb), Diane McCartney (28:44), Jane Kinnear (31:20), Ally Bennett (32:40) and Joanne Hughes (34:35pb).

In Larne, Rachael Lloyd was the club’s only representative, with the Sunderland-born runner clocking a personal best of 26:48 on the hilly Carnfunnock two-lap course.
