Striker selected for Northern Ireland

STRABANE man Rory Patterson has been called up for Northern Ireland's friendly in Albania, next month.

While Londonderry teenager Shane Duffy, who has impressed Everton boss David Moyes, has turned down the chance to play for Northern Ireland and has opted to try and force his way into Giovanni Trapattoni's Republic of Ireland squad.

As for Patterson he has been on fire for Carling Premiership side Coleraine, this season.

The striker has netted 31 goals this campaign, 25 in the league and has already signed a pre-contract with champions Glentoran.

Also in Nigel Worthington's 23 man squad is former Derry City winger Niall McGinn, however his Celtic team-mate Paddy McCourt hasn't been included in the squad.
