Two national finals for Social

Hillsborough Social ended up with both the rinks places at the Lisburn Zone qualifiers for the National Championships, but there were a few upsets along the way.

Simon Cavan beat Raymond Stubbs in the group semi-final and went on to win the group final at a tie end against Jonathan McMullan, who had earlier eliminated George McLernon.

Cavan’s rink was Trevor Heasley, Robert Sloan, Ryan and Simon Cavan. McMullan’s four were Joan Montgomery, Davy Sloan, Howard and Jonathan McMullan.

In the other group, Nick Haire beat Dessie Hamilton in the semi-final and went on to beat surprise package Teresa Cushnahan, who had earlier accounted for Stevie Mulholland and Jim Johnston.

Haire’s four were Andy Riley, Michael Beattie, Nathan and Nick Haire while Cushnahan had David Lunn, Suzanne Cushnahan, Frank Cunningham and Teresa Cushnahan.

Quarter finals: Paul Cairnduff Seymour Hill lost to Simon Cavan Hillsborough Social, Michael Reid Rock lost to Raymond Stubbs Ballinderry, David Moore St Mark’s a bye, George McLernon Eglantine lost to Jonathan McMullan Hilden.

Semi-finals: Cavan beat Stubbs, Moore lost to McMullan.

Final: Cavan beat McMullan at a tie end.

Group Two

Quarter finals: Nick Haire beat Keith Morrison Ballinderry, Dessie Hamilton Pond Park beat Richard Maitland Annahilt Parish, Tom McCrory St Paul’s lost to Jim Johnston Soldierstown, Teresa Cushnahan Rock beat Stevie Mulholland St Joseph’s.

Semi-finals: Haire beat Hamilton, Johnston lost to Cushnahan.

Final: Haire beat Cushnahan.
