Causeway Coast and Glens Council to debate call for opportunities for young people with additional needs
Causeway Coast and Glens Council is to debate a call to provide inclusive recreational and social opportunities for young adults with additional needs.
Sinn Fein councillor Cllr Ciaran McQuillan has tabled a motion to be debated at a full Council meeting on November 3.

The motion, seconded by his party colleague Cllr Leanne Peacock, reads: “That this Council recognises the importance of providing inclusive recreational and social opportunities for young adults with additional needs and acknowledges the barriers many face in accessing suitable play, leisure and social facilities.
"This Council therefore agrees to explore the feasibility of establishing a dedicated, inclusive play and recreational area for young adults with additional needs within the Council area, providing a safe, accessible and welcoming environment where they can socialise, participate in activities and enjoy time outdoors.”
The motion also calls for Council to “engage directly with young adults with additional needs, their families and carers to understand their experiences, identify gaps in existing provision and ensure that any proposed facility reflects their needs; work in partnership with relevant community and voluntary organisations, including Compass Advocacy Network and other organisations supporting people with additional needs, to inform the development of proposals and identify opportunities for collaboration and investigate potential funding opportunities and partnership arrangements that could support the development, delivery and long-term sustainability of such a facility.”
