‘Administrative oversight’ leads to Gilford joiner driving without insurance

A man has been fined and given penalty points for driving without insurance.

Lisburn Magistrates Court heard that on May 29, 2026, police on patrol at Laganbank Road in Lisburn stopped a Vauxhall Vivaro.

Officers spoke with the defendant, Niall Brian Dinsmore (38), whose address was given as Castle Meadows in Gilford, who said he should have insurance in place.

However, checks confirmed there was no valid insurance for the vehicle.

He continued: “He was driving a van he uses for work. He had insurance in place which had lapsed.

"It was an administrative oversight. He immediately took steps to insure the van when he was stopped.”

District Judge Rosie Watters imposed a fine of £250, as well as an offender’s levy of £15.

She also endorsed the defendant’s driving licence with six penalty points.
