Fine and penalty points for Dunmurry man who drove without a licence and swore at police
A Dunmurry man has been fined and given penalty points for driving without a licence and disorderly behaviour.
Lisburn Magistrates Court heard that on February 26, 2026, police were on patrol on the M1 at Sprucefield when they stopped a Peugeot 207 which was being driven by the defendant.
Checks showed that the defendant, Gavin Kevin Michael McVeigh (41), whose address was given as Lagmore Drive, had been disqualified from driving and had not re-sat an extended driving test at the end of the period of disqualification. As a result he had no Northern Ireland driving licence and no valid insurance.
Police moved the vehicle to the park and ride facility at Sprucefield and the defendant was said to have become frustrated and used foul language, saying: “f**king PSNI scumbags”.

He was subsequently charged with the motoring offence, as well as disorderly behaviour.
Defence told the court the defendant had been living in Cavan and had taken a driving test there so now has an Irish driving licence but not a Northern Ireland licence.
He continued: “He is back living in Northern Ireland now and is working as a joiner. He hasn’t been driving since the detection.”
During sentencing, District Judge Rosie Watters said: “He didn’t cover himself in glory, saying police were winding him up.”
On the charge of no driving licence Ms Watters imposed a fine of £100, as well as an offender’s levy of £15 and three penalty points.
On the charge of disorderly behaviour, Ms Watters fined the defendant £300.
