Fans to pay tribute to Northern Ireland fan

Northern Ireland fans in France are to pay tribute to the Ballymena man who tragically died after a fall in Nice.

24-year-old Darren Rodgers died when he fell eight metres from a promenade onto a rocky beach.Northern Ireland fan group Our Wee Country have suggested paying tribute to Darren with a round of applause in the 25th minute in Thursday’s game against Ukraine.

Meanwhile Ulster Northern Ireland supporters club posted on Facebook: “Our Club is deeply saddened to learn of the death of Darren Rodgers here in Nice. We had great craic with Darren on the train from Paris to Nice and he was so proud to be here, supporting our wee country.”

Members of the Northern Ireland squad have also tweeted their shock at the news, captain Steven Davis led tributes saying his thoughts were with the young man’s family.

While Kyle Lafferty said: ““Devastating news I’ve woke up to. My thoughts are with the young mans family and friends. We’ve lost one of our own. RIP.”
