Farewell to Angela

WHEN Angela Alexander announced she was retiring as Postmistress at Finvoy a sense of sadness swept through the community.

For 27 years Angela was the smiling face behind the counter and in the words of many, nothing was any bother to her.

Angela’s popularity was evidenced at a surprise party in the Keers Memorial Hall last Wednesday night when her many friends turned up for a party and an opportunity to bid a fond farewell.

Angela, whose replacement, Sean Maguire, was also present, said she had a wonderful time and now planned to turn her old premises into a playroom to accommodate her grandchildren who she will look after from now on.

There was genuine sadness from the likes of John Reid, May Thompson, Olga Hutchinson and Connie Campbell and many others. Gifts were handed over and Angela was told that the community gave willingly.

Angela started work on May 31 1986 and said she really enjoyed her time there. She was grateful for the support. “They kept me in a job,” she said.

“She was a nice civil lady who was co-operative and we will miss her greatly,” was how May Thompson summed it up.
