Funeral of boxing stalwart Albert to take place

The Banbridge Boxing Club stalwart passed away this week aged 93. The funeral will take place with a service at Albert’s home in Hallsmill at 5pm followed by internment in Moyallen Quaker graveyard.
Albert first took an interest in boxing as an eight year old when he was taught at school by a Scotsman called Jock Timpany. He competed as a boy, a youth and a junior before moving into officiating.

He became a top-class referee in Ulster and was the referee when a young Barry McGuigan made his amateur debut as a 13-year-old.
We will have tributes from across the sporting world to Albert in this Tuesday’s Leader.
