JDLC contracts for electricity and gas

Ballymoney Borough Council has noted two separate year contracts for the supply of electricity and gas at the Joey Dunlop Leisure Centre.

During a recent meeting, the Leisure Services report explained: ‘Following a tendering exercise for gas, the contract for the supply of gas to the Joey Dunlop Leisure Centre was awarded to Firmus Energy, being the cheapest tender. The contract is for a one year period effective from 1st February 2014.

‘It is recommended that Council note that the one year contract, effective form 1st February 2014 for the supply of gas to the Joey Dunlop Leisure Centre was awarded to Firmus Energy.

‘It is recommended that Council note that the Joey Dunlop Leisure Centre will join with the Causeway Council Cluster in a mini competition exercise for the supply of electricity for a one year period commencing on 1st April 2014. Due to the value of the proposed electricity contract the Statutory Transition Committees approval will be sought.’

Cllr John Finlay commended the new changing rooms and toilets. The Director advised members will be given a tour of the new facilities upon completion.

Cllr Ian Stevenson queried if the Leisure Centres had ever looked at renewable energy. Members expressed concern at the rising costs of implementing renewable energy systems. The Director indicated that this could be explored.

It was proposed by Cllr Finlay, seconded by Cllr Atkinson that Council note that the one year contract, effective form 1st February 2014 for the supply of gas to the Joey Dunlop Leisure Centre was awarded to Firmus Energy and to also note that the Joey Dunlop Leisure Centre will join with the Causeway Council Cluster in a mini competition exercise for the supply of electricity for a one year period commencing on 1st April 2014.
