Ballyclare Royal British Legion branch takes part in significant week of remembrance and comradeship
Ballyclare branch of the Royal British Legion has concluded a significant week centred on remembrance and comradeship, with members taking part in events across the area and engaging with the local community.
The week began with branch representatives attending remembrance ceremonies in both Ballyclare and Belfast, honouring those who served and reflecting on the sacrifices made by generations of service personnel. These moments of shared remembrance were described as an important opportunity for veterans and supporters to stand together in solidarity.
This included marking the 15th anniversary of Op Telic, the United Kingdom’s military operation in Iraq.
Comradeship remained a strong theme throughout the week as the branch hosted an outreach stall at this year’s Ballyclare May Fair.

Volunteers met with residents, renewed connections with former service members and offered information on the support available to veterans and their families.
The week concluded with the branch’s Veterans Breakfast in St John’s Church hall in Ballyclare which brought veterans, supporters and guests together in a relaxed and welcoming setting.
Attendees heard from a representative of the Veterans Welfare Service Northern Ireland, who outlined the assistance available to veterans across the region. South Antrim MP Robin Swann was also in attendance at the breakfast.
The Ballyclare branch expressed appreciation for the strong support shown throughout the week, noting that the continued encouragement of the local community is “truly appreciated”.
Preparations are now under way for the branch’s next event – an Act of Remembrance on June 28 marking the 110th anniversary of the Battle of the Somme.
