Causeway Coast and Glens Council to meet PSNI pre-Christmas to plan for Portrush Easter weekend
Causeway Coast and Glens Council is to meet with the PSNI to prepare for potential traffic and anti-social issues in Portrush over the Easter weekend of 2027.
During October’s Environmental Services Committee meeting, Alliance Alderman Richard Brown Stewart asked whether any meetings have taken place or are planned with Council officers, events team, the Policing and Community Safety Partnership (PCSP), PSNI, or other stakeholders regarding Easter weekend arrangements in Portrush.
Ald Brown said Easter weekend has become a “significant issue” within Portrush, because of the impact on residents and businesses due traffic congestion and anti-social behaviour.
He added: “Obviously we want people to come to Portrush and enjoy the town.

“However, we need to ensure that the town is properly prepared so that residents, businesses and visitors can all enjoy the weekend safely.
“I have already spoken with the [PSNI] District Commander and she agrees that we should have those discussions as soon as possible.
“So could we perhaps arrange some sort of meeting with all the stakeholders, especially before Christmas, just to get the ball rolling on how we can approach next year?”
Council’s Director of Environmental Services, Aidan McPeake, replied: “We usually have those discussions early in New Year, but happy to bring those forward and start the conversation.”
A public meeting was held in Portrush back in February on the subject of managing visitor numbers in the resort at Easter. Entitled ‘Our Town, Our Easter, Your Voice’, the event was a public consultation exercise on managing high visitor numbers during the Easter weekend.
