Causeway Coast & Glens Council to send councillors to Belfast Blitz Concert

Causeway Coast and Glens Council is to send two councillors to a ‘Belfast Blitz Concert’ in the Waterfront Hall in Belfast.

Members at January’s Corporate Policy and Resources Committee were asked to consider purchasing tickets for the concert, which is being organised by the Army Benevolent Fund (NI) and will be held on March 21 at the Waterfront Hall in Belfast.

The concert will feature the Band, Bugles, Pipes and Drums of the Royal Irish Regiment to commemorate the 85th anniversary of the Belfast Blitz, with all proceeds going towards the aid of soldiers, veterans and army families in times of need.

In a letter to council, Army Benevolent Fund NI director, David Forsey, said the concert will be hosted by UTV news anchor Paul Clarke, with HM Lord-Lieutenant of Belfast, Dame Fionnuala Jay-O’Boyle invited as guest of honour.

VIP tickets are being offered to the council at a cost of £70 each to include top show seating, entry to the VIP lounge for a pre-show reception with complimentary nibbles, wines and soft drinks, and a return to the VIP lounge to relax during the interval.

DUP Alderman Michelle Knight-McQuillan noted three council members attended the last concert and successfully proposed council’s Veterans’ Champion and Deputy Veterans’ attend to represent council, with other members “filling the space” if they are unable to attend.

Speaking in support of the motion, DUP Alderman Sharon McKillop concluded: “The council has always supported the Benevolent Fund concert and I would second the proposal that there would be representation at that.”
