Craigavon: Relocated bus terminus and two new shelters to provide ‘alternative access’ to Rushmere Shopping Centre

Two bus shelters are to be erected on lands adjacent to Rushmere Shopping Centre, Craigavon, while the existing bus terminus is to be relocated.

Also approved by ABC Planning officers is the reorganisation/rearrangement of taxi bays and short-term loading area.

The facilities will be accessed from the existing one-way service road at the rear of Rushmere Shopping Centre.

The planning application was lodged by MBA Planning Ltd, Citylink Business Park, Belfast, on behalf of Killahoey Ltd, M12 Business Park, Portadown.

ABC Planning officers stated: “The site forms part of a large shopping complex, car parking area and road network within Craigavon Central Area and Craigavon Town Centre.

“Within the centre there are a number of retails units, phone shops and cafés. Furthermore, it is considered the proposed development does not compromise the objectives of the policy in ensuring the continuance of a compact and attractive shopping destination offering choice and convenience.

“Therefore, on this basis officers consider that the proposal is acceptable in principle as it is providing an alternative access to the shopping complex.

“New development should provide reasonable standards of amenity, both in terms of the new environment which the development creates, and in terms of the effect it has on neighbouring properties.

“Officers are of the opinion that the proposed relocation of the existing bus terminus, erection of two bus shelters and consequential reorganisation and rearrangement of taxi bays and short-term loading area would not unduly affect any third party by loss of light or overshadowing.

“Overall, officers are of the opinion that the proposed development is acceptable for this site and would raise no concerns.”
