Plans for seven new apartments in Ballycastle submitted to Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council

Plans for seven new apartments in Ballycastle have been received by Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council.

A planning application was recently submitted to Council’s planning portal and seeks permission for the demolition and replacement of existing dwelling, at 41 Quay Road, and the erection of seven apartments with associated private amenity, access, landscaping, parking and ancillary works.

An accompanying Design and Access Statement said the 0.34-hectare site is located within the current development limit of Ballycastle town centre, the Antrim Coast and Glens Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), Ballycastle Conservation area and Tow River Valley Conservation Area.

“The site is bounded by Ballycastle Integrated Primary School and Ballycastle Leisure [and] is in the town centre with car parking, shops, public houses and historical churches and public amenity to the east including Quay Road Park and Ballycastle playing fields,” the statement added.

“Positioned between Ballycastle town centre and the north coast seafront, the site is surrounded by a wide variety of building typologies and land uses, and 2-3 storey residential and commercial properties address the northern site boundary along Quay Road.

“The Tow River valley with existing mature trees and agricultural farm land defines the southern site boundary. The Dun a Mallaght Motte is also located south-east of the site, surrounded by the existing mature trees.

“Ballycastle Integrated Primary School and the existing telephone exchange building are located along the eastern site boundary positioned along the western and rear site boundary.

“The proposed development will result in a high-quality residential environment in an area where the predominant land use is residential.”
