Tribute paid to Laurencetown, Lenaderg & Tullylish community volunteers at special ‘thank you’ event

The valuable work of volunteers with the Laurencetown, Lenaderg & Tullylish Community Association has been celebrated with a fun outing to say ‘thank you’.

A group of 27 enjoyed a trip to Airtastic for bowling and then on to Buba Drews for a meal together.

"A huge thank you to all of our amazing volunteers who were able to join us for our volunteer appreciation event, we had a lovely time celebrating you!” said a spokesperson for the community association.

"It was wonderful to spend time celebrating the dedication, commitment, and hard work of our volunteers, who make such a positive difference throughout the year and in LLTCA - Laurencetown, Lenaderg & Tullylish Community Association and in Connecting the Community.

The event was particularly enjoyable as volunteers on the Connecting the Community project are out in the community providing befriending support in people's homes, so often don't have the chance to meet other volunteers.

The Connecting the Community project provides 1-1 support through community volunteers for befriending, time out for unpaid carers and ICT support for the over 65s.

The project previously had funding from the Lottery for four years and has now obtained funding for the next five years to combat isolation and loneliness for over 65s. The areas covered has also extended to towns and rural areas of Dromore, Banbridge, Lurgan, Portadown and Craigavon.

There is always a need for volunteers who are able to give an hour or two of their own time every couple of weeks to give people aged over 65 some company through a visit, a cuppa, to go out and about and / or give a carer or family member a break.
