Teacher stars in national campaign
A Ballycastle teacher is fronting a nationwide campaign from the British Council to promote its Connecting Classrooms initiative.
Anne Marie Fitzpatrick, a teacher at St.Patrick’s and St.Brigid’s Primary will star in the new campaign to attract more people into the project. To be included in the marketing campaign she travelled to London last month to take part in a photo and video shoot. The campaign will be live from next month and includes placements across social media platforms like Facebook and in media like The Guardian.

“It is so rewarding for teachers and our pupils to be part of this programme. We’re getting the chance to help young people in Ballycastle develop the knowledge, skills and values to live and work in a global world.
“My favourite thing about the course was how it added a totally different dimension to the classroom. It’s reawoken a passion for teaching in us by sharing ideas with schools across the world. It’s made a huge difference to the children too - a parcel arriving from Uganda or a letter from Sri Lanka ignites excitement and interest in the wider world around them.
“It was nerve-wracking to be part of the photo shoot in London and talk on camera, but all in all it was a fun experience. I’m very happy to be representing Ballycastle by being part of this campaign.”

“Connecting Classrooms helps pupils and their teachers to work with their peers in schools all over the world. For Anne Marie that’s meant learning about classrooms in the Middle East and North Africa and the things that unite us, wherever we are in the world.
“We want other pupils in Ballycastle to build long-term links with schools all over the world. That’s why we’re delighted Anne Marie is helping us share this message. Teachers across the county can apply now to be part of Connecting Classrooms.”
