Young Farmers’ Club test their taste buds at CAFRE

COOKSTOWN Young Farmers’ Club (CYFC) recently participated in the judging panel for the sausage, gourmet sausage and vegetable roll categories in this year’s European Angus Steak Tasting Competition.

The competition, which took place at CAFRE, Loughry Campus, aimed to find the best steaks, sausages and vegetable rolls in Northern Ireland and marked a debut for the sausage and vegetable roll categories in the European Angus sponsored event.

CYFC members eagerly munched their way through an assortment of beef sausages and vegetable rolls engaging their expert farming knowledge and understanding of the food processing techniques in order to grade each product according to taste, appearance, quality etc.

Gary Hamilton, player manager of Glenavon Football Club, is the celebrity judge for the competition and was on hand to provide his expertise in the foodie event. The opinions and scores of the CYFC members will be used along with Gary’s views in order to determine the overall winner in the sausage and vegetable roll category which will be announced at a special Charity Awards Night to be held later this month.

The event was a great success and CYFC would like to thank the European Angus Society for their kind invitation to participate.

Club members would also like to remind everyone about their forthcoming Mouse Race which is set to take place on Friday 30th March in the Hockey Club, Molesworth Street, Cookstown.
