Beginners test the water at Cairndhu

CAIRNDHU Rowing Club's open day on Sunday was an opportunity for new members and returning club members to test the water and have some fun in the sun.

There was a great turnout, with lots of new members coming to see what rowing is about and have their first experiences in a boat.

The sun came out from time to time and there was a slight chop on the water, making it tricky for the newcomers, but they did well to find the rhythm and get the boat gliding along the Antrim coast.

Many thanks to Jackson’s butchers of Ballynure for kindly supplying the meat for the barbecue, which was greatly enjoyed by all, and thanks to East Antrim Boat Club for the close partnership between the clubs.

Club nights are starting up more regularly on Sundays from 2.00pm, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7.00pm, and it is hoped that a junior night up will be up and running before the end of the month.

Anyone who missed Sunday and who wants to try rowing, is encouraged to go along and experienced members will do their best to get you on the water. The boat house is at the slipway opposite Carnfunnock Country Park.
