Bulls Eye maintain unbeaten start to season

With a number of league players on international duty at the World Championships in Perth, Scotland, only four league matches went ahead this week in the Tennents Coleraine Pool League.

The match of the week saw two unbeaten sides meet as Mary Pats travelled to meet the Bullseye Old Boys.

The home side went 2-0 up with wins for Paddy Lynch and skipper Jeff Butcher, before this pair combined in the Scotch doubles to put their side 3-0 up in no time and one from victory.

Simon Riley made no mistakes though as he finally got Mary Pats on the scoreboard before Davy Rosborough held his nerve to edge out Keith Hunter and keep the match alive. The last doubles match was a tense affair and went to a deciding frame.

Andy Hutchinson had a good chance but was unfortunate to go in off his last yellow leaving Keith Hunter and Eddie Mullan an easy finish to claim another good win for the Old Boys.

It was also a good week all round for Potters, the Allstars ran out comfortable 5-1 winners over Mary Craigs B, with new signing Stephen Spence playing his part in the victory.

Stablemates Seagull’s Potters also picked up a victory over the A side from Mary Craigs but in tougher fashion as the match was forced to a playoff, Derek Allum impressing for the home side and Daniel McAuley for the Seagulls.

It was only fitting that these two met in the playoff to decide the destination of the two points. Despite Allum taking the opener, McAuley responded in excellent fashion to take the next two and clinch a well earned victory.

In the week’s other match, Social Club hosted Roost with the home side recording a solid performance to collect the points, despite Gavin McClements’ best efforts for the visitors in winning both singles and doubles, it was a good performance in the last doubles by skipper David Shirlow and Ricky Close which got the home side over the finish line.
