Completing the weekend, Crewe United will be recognised by Lisburn City Council with an exhibition at the Irish Linen Centre tomorrow after the club became the first organisation in Northern Ireland to win a Biffa Award, a national UK award, where Crewe won the Recreation category, after they impressed the judges with their involvement of the local community in their fantastic recreational and environmental work.

Concluding the weekend, the club will hold their Annual Formal at the Maldron Hotel tomorrow night.

Throughout the years Crewe United has raised between £4,000 and £5,000 for the Peace Centre in Warrington, as well as thousands for local charities.

Explaining their involvement in various projects, Chairman Tom McKenna said: “After the Warrington bomb we launched the Torch of Hope project alongside Lisburn City Council, to promote a more positive image of Northern Ireland through sports and the arts. The torch was taken around Northern Ireland, Britain, France, Holland, the US and Canada. Because this was the 20th anniversary of the bomb in March we took the torch to a memorial in Warrington where it was used amongst various memorabilia, and now it comes back on Friday.

“We are keen to do our bit for the local community.”
