The final, which was the last competitive football match at the old Lansdowne Road, was played in awful conditions and saw the Candystripes fight back three times thanks to goals from Mark Farren, Clive Delaney and Peter Hutton, before Stephen Brennan’s own goal in extra-time secured the trophy for the Candystripes.

Ford, the current sponsors of the cup, canvassed fans to select their favourite final from a shortlist of 10.
