“I think you’ve got to be positive and think it’s possible,” said the 29-year-old. “Everyone wants to tell you that you can’t do it in a year but why not.

“If we get the right players and get the right run of results, and obviously perform, then we have a chance.

“There’s some tough teams and some tough games in there so it won’t be easy,” McCrystal said. “It’s a tough division, one goes up automatically and one goes up through the play-offs, so it will be a challenge.

“The big clubs that have been down there have struggled to come back. Luton have come back after a few years down there, but Lincoln and Mansfield are still down there.

“So it’s tough, but there’s no reason why we can’t – we just have to go and give it a go and see what happens.”
