Desertmartin get one over on neighbours Killymoon

Killymoon were the visiting team and Desertmartin were all fired up for this game against their near neighbours.

With only five minutes on the clock Desertmartin were awarded a penalty and Mark Scott stepped up to deliver the opening goal. The visitors had hardly taken the restart when Steven Kenning saw an opening and put Desertmartin 2-0 up.

The second half started as had the first, with Desertmartin adding to their tally five minutes after the whistle through John Henry. Killymoon had a number of chances, but Nelson was on top form and denied the visitors.

In the 80th minute, Andy Kelso saw an opening and pounced to add another goal.

The Desertmartin team were on a high and were not going to let this game slip away from them. Matty Kempton took control of the ball and, with the ‘keeper already under pressure, sneaked one round the defence and into the goal.

Young Samuel Murray who plays for Desertmartin Swifts got his chance to make his debut for the first team and he did a good job and fitted in well.

Desertmartin went down to ten men when Mark Scott was sent off, but the game was over for Killymoon and the home team held on to gain three well deserved points.

This Saturday Desertmartin are away to Brantwood while Desertmartin Swifts are home to Cookstown RBL at 2pm.

Cookstown Celtic travelled to take on league leaders Hill Street on Saturday and despite a strong performance lost 1-0.

Chances were at a premium early on with Celtic going close through an effort from Mulligan.

At the other end Cummings in the Celtic goal dealt with a couple of long range efforts.

The hosts broke the deadlock shortly before the interval when their front two combined to allow the big striker to slot home.

The second half was a similar affair with both sides cancelling each other out. Celtic saw good efforts from Maguire and Mulligan saved whilst a rasping drive by Moore look destined for the corner only for it to be blocked by the hosts’ defender.

At the other end Cummings had to tip over a dipping effort. Celtic pushed for a late equaliser and a headed effort from Maguire sailed wide as the hosts held on for three points.

This week Cookstown Celtic travel to take on Ambassadors in quarter final of Alexandra Cup with a 2pm kick off.
