Lisburn Youth fail in their double bid

Three clubs had the opportunity to complete doubles at the Lisburn Junior Invitational Cup finals, but they all failed at Ballymacoss Playing Fields on Saturday morning.

Lisburn Youth under-13s had an easy win over TTBS, but on the adjoining pitch Lisburn 14s lost 3-0 to Portadown Youth.

Carrick Rangers won the under-17 final last week, but they were shot down on penalties by Donegal Celtic Youth in the under-15 decider on Saturday.

Warrenpoint Youth had two teams in the “small sided” finals, but the under-11s lost on Wednesday night to Larne Youth, who were in Scotland on Saturday and though Warrenpoint took the lead against the young Glentoran Colts team they lost 2-1.

Downpatrick Youth started the season by winning the Shield and were on course to League success, but they lost their last three games, including the play-off against Lisburn Distillery Youth.

They completed their “sorry” run by losing to an only goal against Donegal Celtic Youth.

Last second winner for Larne

Larne Youth 2 Warrenpoint Youth 1 aet

Larne Youth scored the winner in the last seconds of extra time to beat Warrenpoint Youth 2-1 in the under-11 decider.

Larne took the lead through Matthew Carson, but Warrenpoint hit back to level the score with Seamus McNulty scoring a cracking free kick.

But, it was Larne who had the final say with Carson getting his own second goal and the winner late in extra time.

The staggering success story of Glentoran Colts continued, when the team, who are a year younger for the under-12 section came back from behind to beat Warrenpoint Youth 2-1.

They reached the semi-final of the Shield early in the season and took two steps extra on this occasion to add the Cup.

Oran Murdock put ‘Point ahead in the first-half, but Charlie Lindsay got the equaliser late on before Callum Marshall got the winner.

Lisburn Youth won the Shield at the New Year, but lost out to TW Braga in the run-in to the League title, before putting the end of a treble dream behind them with a convincing 4-0 success over TTBS in the Cup final.

Adan Donnelly, who pulled the strings for Lisburn, gave them the lead and David Faulkner added two more before the break before completing his hat-trick in the second-half, the only scorer of three goals on the day.

Lisburn Youth now face Lisburn Rangers Youth in a play-off for League runners-up spot at Stanley Park on Saturday.

Ports get their reward at last

Lisburn Youth 0

Portadown Youth have had a great run during 2015 in the League, but just failed to reach the top two spots in the 14s.

They finally managed to lift a trophy and did it in convincing fashion in the Cup final when they beat Lisburn Youth 3-0.

After a scoreless first-half Silvio Alfonso gave them the lead and they added goals from captain, David Gordon and Sammy Judd.

The Ports waited a while for success, but in the end got their reward.

Celtic won 4-2 on pens

This was a hard fought and fiesty game throughout, but there were no goals to show for the entertainment at half-time.

DC made the breakthrough early in the second-half when Cain Scullion scored from the penalty spot.

But, Carrick levelled with a goal from Jack Loughins and neither team could fnd a winner even in extra time.

On to penalty kicks and Donegal Celtic had the edge to win 4-2 from the spot.

Under 16

Downpatrick’s season ends in disaster

Downpatrick Youth won the Shield and were always looking like potential under-16 League winners, but they lost their last three matches, including the play-off, and finished runners-up.

The disastrous end to the season continued in the Cup final when Morgan McKnight got the only goal to give Willowbank Youth victory.

All credit to Willowbank for a battling performance which delighted their fans afterwards.

The chairman of the Lisburn Junior Invitational League, Stanley Sheppard, expressed his thanks to a number of people who helped in staging the Cup finals, including Lisburn and Castlereagh City Council, who gave permission to use the pitches at Ballymacoss Playing Fields for the finals.

South Antrim League

Double for Ballymacash seconds

Ballymacash YM II completed the double in South Antrim League Division 1 circles, but they needed extra time to see off Bloomfield III in the Supplementary Plate final at Stanley Park on Saturday night.

‘Cash had already won the Division 1 title and their form this season has been very consistent.

But the game was scoreless after 90 minutes as Bloomfield battled to produce a surprise and thay almost did it with the deadlock only broken in extra time.

Colin Jamison gave Ballyclash the lead and Gareth Shirlow made sure near the end.

Premier Division

Ballymacash - Braniel battle still on

Braniel YM and Ballymacash YM are still battling for the South Antrim Premier Division title.

On Saturday, Braniel beat 1st Lisburn 4-0 with goals from Alan Moore, Alan Hamilton, James Belshaw and William Young.

Ballymacash had an 8-1 win over Sandy Row. Scorers were Chris Edgar 3, Stephen Kidd 2, Jordan Johnston, Danny McDowell and Darryl Caws.

Glaston beat FC Utd Lisburn 5-3. FC finish fourth and their scorers were Simon Hall 2 and Andrew Doran. Glaston goals came from Chris McKenna 2, Alan McDonnell 2 and Jim Mullan.

Harrison Gibson 3 and Curtis Mallon scored when Ballymacash YM III beat 1st Lisburn II 4-1.

All midweek League were cancelled after heavy rain.

Supplementary Cup Semi-Finals

Warren are Boal-ed over

A former Warren YM goalkeeper played a big part when Sandy Row beat his former team 3-1 in the semi-finals of the Supplementary Cup on Thursday night.

Boal was outstanding and he only conceded a goal by Neil Donaghy. Colin Halliday scored two and Terence Morrison the other one to see Sandy Row through to the final.

A couple of weeks ago Braniel YM beat Ballymacash YM 4-0 in the League, but that score was reversed in the Supplementary Cup semi-final on Thursday night.

Chris Edgar 2, Stephen Elder and Danny McDowell scored for Ballymacash.
