Unbeaten run comes to an end

Banbridge Town Juniors U12s

(Lisburn League) 2

Lisburn Distillery 3

BANBRIDGE Town Juniors U12 Lisburn League team were left scratching their heads wondering how they managed to loose for the second time this season against Lisburn Distillery at Cheney Park on Saturday morning.

Banbridge dominated the opening exchanges trying to play their slick football but somehow managed to fall behind after ten minutes when a through ball down the Distillery right, got in behind the Town defence and was finished superbly to the corner of the net.

Minutes later Town then went two behind when from a corner the ball wasn’t cleared properly and Distillery finished once again to leave the juniors shell shocked.

But to their credit they rallied and began to exert some pressure on Distillery. Twice McCandless whipped great balls into the box but unfortunately no-one could quite get on the end of the crosses.

Eventually minutes before the break the ball broke kindly to Angus in the box and he finished clinically to give the juniors a boost going into half time.

Town made three changes at half time and this gave new energy to the team as they pushed for the equaliser. But despite all their efforts they were hit by a devastating counter attack from Distillery against the run of play and managed to find themselves with a mountain to climb at 3–1 down.

Switching to just three at the back with Devlin, Morgan and McAtamney, Town pushed hard for their second and got back in the game when Downey slipped in behind the defence rounded the keeper and struck the crossbar, the rebound fell kindly to Fearon who made no mistake from inside the box.

The final 10 minutes saw Town pushing for the equaliser and Barr was unlucky to be denied by the keeper’s feet.

But it was not to be despite their best efforts, the final whistle went ending their six game unbeaten run.

While not being quite at their best Town can take credit for their battling and never say die attitude and with a bit more luck may have got something from the game.

Next week sees another home game against Sunnyside at Havelock Park, kick-off 9.15 am.
