Alan and Chris see Ulster Fourball team into quarters

Leading by five matches to nil after the home leg, they travelled to Fintona for the away leg knowing that they only needed a half match to progress to the quarter finals of the competition.

Confidence was high but all of the players knew that the tie was not yet won. Mark Jamieson and Billy Gregge were first out in a tight match only to lose on the 17th green.

Second out were the two most consistent players this year, Alan Crowe and Chris Davis who romped home with a four and three win and secure the tie for Lisburn. Two of the three remaining pairs were up in their matches and the final pair was all square when called in. The team now face Moyola Park in the quarter finals of the Ulster Fourball Trophy.

July Stableford

The main focus of attention around Lisburn Golf Club on Saturday 11th July was on the wedding reception for Glenn Waring.

It’s not often that Glenn misses his Saturday round of golf.

However, 189 other club members competed in the July Stableford Competition on Saturday and another 15 in the same competitionon Sunday.

On Saturday, 24 of the players returned scores of 37 or more stableford points and another 14 scored 36 points. The CSS on Saturday was 72. On Sunday scoring was not so good and the CSS was 74.

Top of the list was Alan Walker (15) with 44 points. Alan failed to score at the 12th hole but more than made up for this by scoring 18 points (one under par gross) in the next six holes.

Second place was taken by Chris Collins (19) on 43 points and Ian Kenny (10) was a clear third on 41 points. Greg Bailie (6) was the best of seven players on 40 points, just pipping Aaron Marshall (6) for the gross prize with a better second nine holes.

Among the remaining players on 40 points were two juniors, Mark Stewart (12) and Johnny Scott (13) who each had additional handicap reductions under the exceptional scoring reduction rule.

mid-week stableford

The mid week stableford competition on 8th July was won by Gary Brett (13) with 38 points. Mark Armstrong (9) took second place with 37 points having a better back 9 than third placed Gregory Law (12) also on 37 points.
