The 20-year-old celebrated his victory at Seapoint with fellow Whitehead members Colin Farr (Club Professional), Darren Kane, Jeremy Jones, Chiz Parker and Terry Kane.

Murray, 42, had edged ahead on the second with a conceded par, before Galbraith levelled the match on the next with birdie.

On the sixth, a wonderful second shot to the par five set up an eagle for Galbraith to put him one up.

Murray quickly responded winning the seventh with par. Galbraith’s wins at 10 and 11 edged him ahead before Murray won the 12th and 13th. The 14th was halved, before Galbraith won 15 and 16 with pars.

Murray bounced back winning the 17th with a birdie two, but his poor tee shot on 18 gave Galbraith the advantage and he went on to claim his first senior success.

In 2011, Galbraith won Ulster Boys’ title and made it to the quarter-finalist of the British Boys Championship the same year.
