Jonathen tops the bill at Royal Portrush

Jonathen Frazer took top spot in RPGC’s Saturday Turkey competition with 33 points carded from his six handicap.

His eagle three at the par five second went some way to assist him to 21 points from the first nine holes of the shortened winter course. Jonathen dropped just two shots in that opening nine so he was level par for it in gross terms. Jonathen then added consecutive birdies at ten and eleven, a four and a two, to get off to a flier on the final five holes dropping a shot at eighteen with a five did not really matter as he won with a point to spare from Simon Rankin on 32.

Simon plays off five and he also picked up two shots early in the outward nine as he birdied the first in three and the fifth in four. These shots were returned to the course with bogies at six and eight before Simon hit the birdie trail again with a four at the long ninth to gather 22 points for the nine. he slipped to a six at the par five tenth but recouped that with his final birdie of the round, a four at seventeen before dropping a shot at the long par four eighteenth to add 10 points to the card to end with 32.

Gary Setevenson took third just a point back on 31 from his mark of four. The par fives, two and nine fell to birdy fours and in between he logged a bogey five at six and a double bogey six at seven to gather 19 points for nine holes. The final five holes opened with four and a two, both birdies, and with just one shot dropped, at sixteen, Gary added in 12 points for his final score of 31. Alistair Carson, Tom Clarke and Arthur McAlister all scored 30 points each for the final birds.
