Larne lost heavily to them in the league encounter and will need to be somewhat sharper in the cup game.

However, stranger things can happen as Larne has on a few occasions this season raised their game against the better sides so it could be an interesting encounter.

Saturday, April 24 is the final league fixture with Larne travelling to play Foyle.

The club annual general meeting will be held on Tuesday, May 11 and a good turnout of members is anticipated. The club has identified a few young members who could take an office in the club and this looks like becoming a reality enabling the club maintain its high standard of governance and develop new administrators.

The club hope to put in place a dedicated sponsorship officer and junior coach to develop boys hockey for future club benefit.

Larne hope to announce a major sponsor in the weeks ahead a very welcome boost for the club as costs of running the club are continually increasing, pitch hire for matches and training accounts for a few thousand pounds alone each year.

Running a club takes considerable commitment from key officers with issues such as child protection, financial governance and administration requiring many hours of attention on a weekly basis.

Several former club players have taken to bowls once their hockey playing days were over, Michael Telford, Sam McKibben, John Dodsworth, Jimmy McClean and Leslie King to name a few.

It was good to see Leslie King pick up major bowling awards at the recent St Cedma’s club prize giving event. Leslie is a life member of the club and its current treasurer.
