Tennis club hails young star Matthew at AGM

BALLYMENA Lawn Tennis Club held their 15th Annual General meeting in Ballymena Bowling Club and honoured young Matthew Robinson, one of the club’s most outstanding young players, for his achievements throughout Ireland in the past three years.

Fergus Barklie, the Club Chairman, congratulating Matthew explained: “This young man is not just an ambassador for our club but also for Ballymena. He is an example to us all with his dedication to sport, his enthusiasm, competitiveness and sportsmanship at all times win or lose.

“Not only has he won a number of titles each year since he was nine but has also been playing for Ulster in Junior Interprovincial Competitions throughout Ireland.”

In honour of his achievements, Fergus presented Matthew with a silver plaque on behalf of the club.

Ballymena Tennis Club is now offering a series of continuous Junior squad coaching sessions for all standards of young players on Saturday afternoons and would welcome any young players to put their names forward without delay.

Adult play and coaching is also available throughout the year so please come along to our social tennis on Saturday mornings at 10.30 am or Tuesday evenings at 7 pm when you will be made most welcome.

Just ask for Fergus, treasurer Mary Goodwin, secretary Karen Cherry or any committee member who will introduce you to other players and get you on court as quickly as possible.

TWO DAYS FREE TENNIS are now available to anyone wishing to come along and see how enjoyable our club is no matter whether you are a beginner or experienced player everyone welcome.

Coaching is available for all ages of Junior or Senior players 12 months of the year for all standards – beginners and improvers - while the club’s juniors are coached from four years of age twice per week all year round.

For those interested in playing in competitions the club has in the region of 18 teams seniors and juniors playing throughout the province continually.
