Cars ransacked in Hayes Court

Councillors have condemned a series of thefts from cars at Hayes Court last weekend.

At around 2am on Sunday, December 8, five cars in Hayes Court were entered and rummaged through.

A Dell laptop in a black, diamond patterned cover, a red Ipod Nano with ‘Emma’ engraved on the back, a Liverpool FC top (age 11-12 years) and a Garmin sat nav were taken.

Appealing to those responsible councillor Glenn Barr said: “Criminality in any form is not wanted. We are coming up to Christmas and the season of good, will which makes this even more annoying but really, we don’t want crime at any time of year.

“I would just ask for these people to get a conscience and hand back the goods. I would also ask for people to come forward with information, and report anything if offered goods like this under suspicious circumstances.

“My thoughts are with the victims of this crime”.

Councillor Joan Baird also called for everyone to take safety measures and remain vigilant saying: “Please report anything suspicious to Crimestoppers.

“Those responsible for these sorts of crimes must be caught”.

Police in Banbridge are appealing for anyone who noticed any activity around the area at this time, or who is offered items of this nature for sale in suspicious circumstances, to contact them in Banbridge on 0845 600 8000.

“If you prefer to provide information without giving your details you can contact the independent Crimestoppers charity anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Police are also reminding motorists to lock their vehicles when unattended.

Don’t make it easy for thieves - remove all valuables from view. Lock valuable items in the boot and remove the face plate from your in-car stereo system.

Ensure all windows and sun roofs are secure.

Improving security features such as alarms, prominent VIN number markings, immobilisers and tracking devices can also help protect your vehicle.

It only takes a matter of seconds to break into a car so it is vitally important that the public promptly report any suspicious activity they notice near vehicles or when a car alarm has been activated. This will help to deter and help us detect those involved.
