Local Soroptimists celebrate 50 years

Soroptimist International Ballymoney & District celebrated their 50th anniversary with a dinner held at the Royal Portrush Golf Club.

President Hoyce Warmington welcomed many guests from other clubs and friends of members to the evening.

Following a lovely meal secretary, Mrs Fiona Murdock read cards of congratulations and apologies from members not able to be present.

A toast was made by the Lady Mayoress of Ballymoney, Mrs Linda Finlay and responded to by the Regional President of Northern Ireland, Mrs Irene Miskimmon. Irene presented long service certificates to two members, Mrs Rosemary Torrens (30 years) and Mrs Elsie Maconaghie, founder member (50 years).

President Joyce and founder member Elsie cut a cake to mark the 50thwhich had been baked by the daughter of a founder member.

The guest speaker was Mr Charlie Warmington, broadcaster and journalist and currently writing the ‘Roamer’ column in the News Letter. He recalled some of the events happening in the year the club was formed and entertained the audience with stories from his column. President Elect Mrs Helen Patterson thanked Mr Warmington and everyone made their way home after an enjoyable evening.
