Services should be praised: Reader

SIR - I would like to write to your paper in response to comments made regarding the recent spell of bad weather that we have been having.

Too often we complain about the services we as ratepayers receive and I think it is about time we praised the work of our council and in particular the Roads Service, who have worked tirelessly over the past number of weeks, at all hours of the day and night, keeping our main roads clear.

I have been aware that they have been working around the clock, doing an excellent job of keeping the main roads clear and assisting the public where they can.

I as a ratepayer and member of the public would like to say thank you. The weather is extreme at present, and not something that we are used to. The problem is we as the public just want to go on as normal despite this, but the fact is we can’t and we shouldn’t blame everyone else.

We should all muck in and help each other instead of complaining.

While many of us were celebrating Christmas and New Year with our families, Roads Service officials were out risking their own lives in adverse conditions and on untreated roads to make them safe for us to travel on and I think it is about time we said thank you for the work they have done instead of complaining about what hasn’t been done.
