‘I’m just a kid trying to do something nice’ says Daniel

But one local lad, Daniel Shevlin, won’t be rushing to the salon just yet, as he is growing his hair in the name of charity.

Daniel, a former pupil at St Colman’s Primary School, Lambeg, decided he wanted to do something during lockdown to raise money for The Little Princess Trust which provides free real hair wigs to children and young people, who have lost their own hair through cancer treatment or other conditions.

Daniel’s mother Christine explained: “Daniel has talked about doing this for a while now. So, we set up a fundraising page and hope the community will all get behind him and help awareness for what Daniel is trying to achieve for the The Little Princess Trust.

“Daniel, due to lock down and the good head of hair gene I have passed down, has already started the process of letting his hair grow and will not cut it until his birthday on July 17, when his hair will also be donated.”

Christine is clearly proud of her son and his efforts to support the charity.

“There are so many reasons parents feel proud of their kids and Daniel makes us proud every single day,” said Christine.

“I’m proud of how often people describe Daniel as big-hearted. It amazes me his desire to help others. Kindness is a massive mantra in our home, and it makes my heart burst with pride when I see him actively trying to make the world a little bit softer, a little bit kinder for others. We would like to thank everyone for supporting our little superstar and especially a big shout out to Granny and Papa.”

A very modest Daniel said of his fundraising effort: “I’m just a kid trying to do something nice in a sometimes not so nice world.”
