Northern Ireland Learning Disabilities and Autism Awards recognise valuable role of Tandragee support worker

A Tandragee support worker has been recognised at the Northern Ireland Learning Disabilities and Autism Awards.

Lynsey Anderson picked up the Support Worker Award 2026 in the independent category at the Hilton Hotel.

Having a family member with autism inspired Lynsey to pursue a career caring for individuals with learning difficulties in various settings over a period of 10 years.

Now 31, Lynsey began in 2025 providing private care due to the lack of provision in adult services, enabling families to get much needed respite while their loved ones enjoy social activities.

Awards judges commented: “Lynsey has achieved outstanding outcomes for the people she supports by building strong, trusting relationships with families and loved ones.

"Her collaborative approach ensures everyone’s voice is valued, creating a truly holistic support network. Through compassion, communication, and partnership working, Lynsey consistently helps people achieve meaningful progress and improved quality of life.”

Lynsey works to provide social activities in the community with the people she cares for, including everything from a trip to the cinema, Halloween and Christmas events, sensory room experiences, and Tayto factory tours to the small things that mean the most like going for a coffee, gym sessions, and meeting new people.

Last but not least are going for walks with Lynsey’s dog Nala, who has touched so many of their lives and helped some overcome their fear of dogs.

Congratulating Lynsey on social media were families of the people she supports, with one comment reading: “Amazing Lynsey, huge congratulations. The panel who chose you as their winner obviously saw in you what we already know - a kind, caring, beautiful girl who goes above and beyond in all you do, plus a genuinely down to earth girl who absolutely loves and has a passion for what you do and are brilliant with our son. Honestly hand on heart couldn’t ask for more; we are truly blessed."

Held on June 10, the National Learning Disabilities and Autism Awards celebrate excellence in the support for people with learning disabilities, alongside paying tribute to those individuals or organisations who excel in providing quality care.
