School reading scheme explained

Tuesday 24th January saw St. Brigid’s Primary School Cloughmills host a very successful parents’ evening.

The purpose of the evening was to introduce parents to a new Accelerated Reader initiative that was introduced last year.

Accelerated Reader is intended to motivate and encourage children to read independently and develop a life-long love of books and reading.

The evening was used to outline the rationale for the programme and explain to parents what the children experience in school using the AR facility and the refurbished school library.

It was also used to provide advice on what parents can do to assist their children in developing their reading skills and increasing their success through using Accelerated Reader.

The school principal, Mr McGuckian, commented on how the evening had been very successful and very well attended, an indication of the support of the parents for the initiative.

At the end of the evening Mr McGuckian thanked the PTA for providing the funding for the initiative and thanked all the parents for their continued support for the school.
