Waterside community leaders thanked for their calm at time of anti-PSNI protest

Foyle MLA Gary Middleton thanked community leaders for liaising with the party on the day.

He made the comments after meeting the PSNI to discuss the situation.

“We raised our concerns with the PSNI in relation to the illegal procession which took place when republicans marched from the cityside to the Waterside, via the peace bridge, with political banners and flags to then stage a protest at St Columb’s Park house,” he said.

“We look forward to seeing the investigation into this illegal activity continue and those who broke the law brought to justice.

“The DUP thanked St Columb’s Park house for stepping in at late notice to ensure the recruitment event took place,” said Mr Middleton.

“We also put on record our thanks to the community leaders within the Waterside who we were in regular contact with throughout the day. Had it not been for this dialogue, the situation could have been much worse.

“As elected political representatives we will continue to confront and challenge those who wish to cause disruption in our society. We will continue to support the PSNI as they work to protect our communities,” he concluded.
