Junior Masters lead the way at Ballyearl

The Mayor of Newtownabbey, Alderman Fraser Agnew, recently joined winners of the Ballyearl Junior Masters and Mini Masters golf competitions to present them with their well-deserved prizes.

Both competitions, held on June 1, were open to boys and girls aged 6 to 14 years and attracted a large number of entries.

There were lots of prizes up for grabs, which were kindly sponsored by resident PGA Professional Richard Johnston.

The nine hole par 3 course at Ballyearl is perfectly suited for the younger golfers, challenging all aspects of their game from tee to green.

Speaking at the event, the Mayor commented: “It’s fantastic to see such large numbers of junior golfers participating in this competition at Ballyearl and well done to all the winners.

“I hope this early experience of the great game of golf starts a life-long interest in sports which we know is a great way for children to be active and healthier.

“You never know, Newtownabbey might also have a star of the future, joining Graeme McDowell and Rory McIlroy on tour!”

The winners were as follows: Mini Masters - 1st, Taylor Morrison; 2nd, Luke Kelly; 3rd, Adam Buchannon.
