Stableford winfor McGimpsey

Garth McGimpsey compiled at score of 40 points over the Dunluce Links to win Royal Portrush Golf Club’s Monthly Stableford by a point.

The first was birdied in three as was the fourth. A two was dropped in at six and a closing front nine birdie four was added at nine for a front nine tally of 32 shots. Garth then birdied ten and eleven with a four and another two to make it three birds in a row! His pair of dropped shots came with two fives at twelve and thirteen but the birdies were not finished as he rolled in a putt at fifteen for his seventh of the day.

Forty points was the result and all were needed as Eamon McCotter was on his tail, finishing with 39 points to take the Silver Medal. Eamon’s eagle three at the long second made up for a double bogey six at the seventh to give him 18 points at the turn. Seven pars started the back nine before a birdie dropped at seventeen. A closing bogey five levelled this up but it was a good back nine of 21 points that helped Eamon to silver. Bronze winner was Alistair Carson on 34 points. Steady scoring without dramatics saw Alistair gather 19 points out. The eighteenth took some of the momentum from Alistair with a no score to see him home with another 15 points for his 34 overall.
