Community spirit praised

COUNCILLOR Noel McGeown thanked Clann Eireann for helping bomb evacuees over the weekend.

Residents said they had to leave their homes for over 11 hours on Saturday following the bomb blast.

Cllr McGeown thanked the GAA club for making the premises available for affected residents.

He said: "Following the detonation I contacted Clann Eireann to ask if they would make their premises available to those who had to leave their homes at short notice.

"Without hesitation the club immediately opened their doors to facilitate anyone who required time to make arrangements and offered to accommodate anyone who had nowhere else to turn for as long as they needed shelter.

“I would like to thank Clann Eireann for their generosity and their immediate response when the local community need their help. They have shown by their action that the objective of the GAA to build and foster a sense of community is as strong as ever.”
