Prison sentence for Lisburn man found in possession of hundreds of illegal tablets

A Lisburn man has been sentenced to two months in prison after being found in possession of hundreds of illegal pills.

He appeared before Lisburn Magistrates Court on Thursday, October 29, 2026 charged with three counts of possession of Class A drugs, namely pregabalin, zopiclone, and diazepam.

The court heard that on August 27, 2026 police on patrol in Lisburn were flagged down by a man who was said to have cuts to his eyes and knees. Police noted he was extremely unsteady on his feet and had dilated pupils.

After suspecting the man was under the influence of drugs, officers carried out a search and found 300 pregabalin tablets, 109 zopiclone tablets, and 160 diazepam tablets.

Commenting that she had received a positive report from the Probation Service but expressing concern at the amount of drugs found on the defendant, District Judge Rosie Watters said: “This is a lot of drugs. It is very disappointing.”

Ms Watters imposed a custodial sentence of two months on each of the three charges before the court. She also imposed an offender’s levy of £25.

Ms Watters issued an order for the destruction of the drugs found during the search of the defendant.
