Girlguiding seeks new members

A recruitment campaign for new members and adult volunteers has been launched by Girlguiding Ulster, the organisation which runs the Rainbows, Brownies, Guides and Senior Section locally.

The campaign, which includes the distribution of leaflets to primary schoolchildren and across local communities, aims to increase the enrolment of girls from four-years-old upwards and to encourage adult volunteers to get involved in running existing groups and setting up new ones.

Launching the campaign, Carole Graham, chief commissioner for Girlguiding Ulster, said that the decision to grow numbers came from a desire to bring the “fun, excitement and camaraderie that guiding offers to more girls”.

“As well as recruiting more girls, we are very keen to bring more volunteers in to the organisation to help deliver activities and manage groups,” she added.

“Volunteers can be mothers, grandmothers, aunts, big sisters or anyone else who would like to help girls fulfil their potential. Volunteering can be arranged to fit around a busy lifestyle, plus it’s a great way to make friends and learn new skills.

“As well as helping girls have fun and learn, you’ll boost your own abilities and confidence. We are a cross-community organisation and welcome girls and volunteers from any faith and no faiths.”
